Ramblings

Aneyong!

And so it is time for my ramblings. LOL. It’s kinda a wonder I have finally finished this story. It felt just like it was yesterday that the inspiration to write this fic came one dark and stormy night… LOL. I can’t believe I was able to complete it and put all of my thoughts in. That’s always the case when finishing a story ne. ^^

This has been a really fun ride with you guys! Thank you so much for your support, comments (LOVE them) and the love you gave for these silly characters. ^^ For those who stuck with me from the very beginning, thank you. *bows*

They will surely be missed ne? Maybe they will appear once in a while in the future. ^^

Thanks again, you guys! Well, I will go ask the Sho-racle if there are any future fics lined up then. LOL! xD

Chapter 19: Mao-Tarta y Pi-Tuerca

Chapter 19: Mao-Tarta y Pi-Tuerca

Translation: Mao-Tart and Pi-Nut

**

“Mr. Matsumoto Jun. Your band mates are waiting for you at Gate 27,” the announcer announced. (Uh…)

Mao stifled a yawn as she placed her head on Pi’s shoulder. Pi leaned against her, closing his eyes. Massu watched as the bubble he was blowing grew bigger and bigger. Tego was throwing paper balls at Pi bitterly (whose face was starting to twitch) while Ryo slept on, his cap over his face, as Kei-chan softly sang along to the song he was listening to, which sounded suspiciously like Big Bang’s Haru Haru. (Curse you, Mao!)

They were in the airport waiting for their flight. To where? Hawaii. Pi was the one who covered all the expenses. Why? Just cause.

Mao had been eating pudding on the couch watching TV when Pi suddenly jumped in front of her. His hands were hidden behind his back.

“Get away. He’s finally remembering her in the cabin. After having amnesia that is slightly excessive yet manages to come off really sweet.”

Pi rolled his eyes at her. “What could be more important than this?” And then he produced a pineapple in his hands, grinning widely at her.

“Did you just pull that out of your butt?”

Pi’s eye twitched. You love her Pi. Remember, you love her, he reminded himself. He scowled at her as laughter filled her eyes. He placed the pineapple in her hands.

“Guess where we’re going,” he said as he plopped down beside her.

Mao frowned at the pineapple in her hands. “Ah-ha! We’re going to go for an underwater adventure to find Pedro living in his pineapple under the sea!”

Blank stare.

“At least give me credit for being creative.”

“You almost got it though,” Pi said sarcastically. “Come on, just guess.”

“I’m missing the proposal,” Mao whined as Pi growled.

His eyes then darted back and forth from her and the poster by her window. Mao looked confused. Pi should get his eyes checked. Pi widened his eyes and they significantly were telling her to look behind her. Mao frowning, slowly turned her head.

She slowly turned back to Pi, a blank expression on her face and then Pi was almost blown away by her shrieking. She hugged him tight, chattering excitedly, unable to believe it and then-

“Wait a minute, I don’t have enough money for the trip.”

“Duh! Of course I’ll be paying for it. And no, I don’t want you repaying me.”

“Okay!” Mao said, grinning.

Pi narrowed his eyes at her. “Wow, you didn’t even hesitate.”

“You don’t want me to. I’m not going to make things hard for you,” she shrugged slyly. Of course she’ll find a way to pay him back. Although this means slaving away for the most part of her life.

"But maybe Korea would have been better ne? I want to go see Big Bang!"

Pi glared at her and pinched both her cheeks. She automatically pinched him back.

“Retards,” Ryo had muttered when he walked in on them trying to outpinch each other again, growling.

Pop! Massu’s bubble went. He started to clean it off. ‘Last Farewell’ then started ringing. Mao checked her message.

“Have a safe flight.” Shun.

“Who that?” Pi asked, peering in as Mao started to type her reply.

She and Shun were off to a new start. And she was glad that it was he who had made the first move. Kei-chan had come into her room that time while she and Pi were hunched over the dining table arguing about something while Pi was holding a permanent marker.

“Mail for you, Mao-Mao,” he said, handing her a large envelope. He stared down at the table and saw the ‘I Belong With Tego’ shirt.

“Open it for me, Kei-chan,” Mao said. She was a bit busy with stopping Pi from ruining the shirt with the permanent marker. Pi growled at her.

Kei-chan shrugged, opened it and peeked in, saying it contained a couple of photos. And then thought it funny to imitate a reality TV show.

“I hold in my hand two photos but only one. can. become. the. next. top. model,” Kei-chan said in a mystical voice.

Mao stared at him. Pi took the advantage of that distraction, scribbled something and then grinned smugly.

Kei-chan looked dramatically at the two of them as they waited there with bated breaths.

“Congratulations, Pi!” he then announced, presenting him a photo from the envelope.

“I’m a Covergirl!” Pi gushed. “Or in this case, boy.”

Mao pouted at Kei-chan. “How come it’s not me?”

“Choosing Pi is more realistic,” Kei-chan said.

Mao hit Kei-chan on the arm as he chuckled. Pi looked down at the photo in his hand.

“Hey, it’s us!”

They crowded beside him and looked down at it. It was a picture of them that time at the beach taken from behind them. Shun. In the photo, she and Pi were pinching each other’s cheeks. Massu had clumps of sand boobies on his chest while Tego was laughing and pointing as Kei-chan took pictures. Ryo, as usual, was looking at them like they were crazy.

They took out the other photo. This time they were all watching the sunset. The way Shun had captured it made them speechless. A little note came with the photos.

“I don’t like pork and beans but I can live with it.”

Mao smiled down at the note in her hand. Pi put his arm over her shoulders and kissed her temple. Kei-chan’s eyes then fell on the shirt on the table. He had found out what Pi had been trying to do.

“Don’t let Tego see that.”

“See what?” Tego asked from behind as Massu and Ryo filed into the room. He then pointed an accusing finger at Pi. “What are you doing back?”

“I still have my room,” Pi said, sticking his tongue out at him. Who says he can’t come back from time to time?

Tego’s eyes fell on the table. “What did you do?! You ruined it!”

Mao looked around and then shook her head, exasperated as Pi proudly held up the shirt. He had crossed out (I mean, really crossed out) Tego’s name with the marker and written in his name. She had tried to stop him but… Tego tried to take it away from him, glaring as Pi jumped back. The others looked back at the photos again, ignoring the two in the background.

The photos were now hanging in her room.

**

Shun’s phone beeped.

“Thank you,” came Mao’s reply. Including a ‘From Mrs. Yamashita’ typed in.

“Ignore the last part,” came another message.

“Don’t ignore it.” Mrs. Yamashita.

Shun could only chuckle at the messages. He then looked up as the men were starting to set-up the place. He will be holding his photo exhibit soon. The assistant he had hired came up to him to discuss some minor final details.

“How come these two are named ‘Pork & Beans’ though?” he pointed at the photos of Mao and the others.

“I just like the randomness,” he shrugged and grinned. “Don’t you?”

**

“Give me that!” Mao yelled as she pried her phone away from Pi’s hands. “Stop typing in, Mrs. Yamashita!”

“Whut? You will be eventually. Why not get used to it?” he teased.

Mao made a face at him. “We don’t know that.”

“Whut? My mom likes you,” Pi pouted.

And it still surprised her. She had been pretty nervous about meeting her (maybe because of the way Kei-chan had portrayed her in his alternate universe) and she had held on to Ryo as Pi tried to pull her when they were off to lunch to meet her.

“No! No! I change my mind! We’ll do it next time,” she cried, not letting go of Ryo. He tried to pry her off.

“Let go!” Pi and Ryo yelled at her.

But it wasn’t so bad. His mom was so… normal. Really nice and warm. She had chuckled as Pi relayed to her the scene she had made earlier (earning a death glare from Mao.)

“Don’t worry. Pi doesn’t have any fiancĂ©es in his closet. I don’t like that kind of business,” she had winked at her making her relax a bit.

Mao stuck her tongue out at him and pinched his nose, grinning despite herself. Pop! came Massu’s bubble again. Pi checked his watch and glanced furtively at the others. He nudged Mao and whispered something into her ear, making her eyes widen. They gave each other a look and then-

“See you guys later!” Pi then called as he grabbed Mao’s hand and they sprinted off.

“Whu-?” Ryo mumbled as he straightened up, startled awake by Pi’s voice. Kei-chan seemed not to notice as he was still into the song. Massu and Tego could only stare at them.

“Sorry, we’re travelling first class! We’ll be going to the VIP lounge for some food!” Pi called back as they continued to walk quickly.

“Yeah, coz I’m VIP! Get it? A Big Bang fan. You know, they call them VI-,” Mao explained to them as Pi stopped and tried to cover her face.

“You’re embarrassing me,” he said as Mao growled at him.

They had stopped a few distances away and started to bicker. Ryo had pulled Koyama up to watch the two. They looked at them shaking their heads.

**

“Let’s just go,” Pi then interrupted and grabbed her hand. Mao glared at him, but despite herself broke into a smile as she and Pi started to run hand-in-hand. The others even looked on at them wistfully…

And then she tripped and almost fell flat on her face if she hadn’t crashed into Pi. (Pwahahaha!) She swears she could hear Ryo and the others guffaw. It was supposed to look really romantic but hey, she’s just the way she is.

She saw the corner of Pi’s lips twitch. She narrowed her eyes darkly at him. He covered his mouth trying to suppress the laughter that was threatening to come out. Mao could see mirth filling his eyes.

“Don’t laugh,” she warned.

Pi’s shoulders started to shake.

“I said, don’t laugh!” she said as she tried to cover his mouth.

He couldn’t hold it in any longer and laughed out loud, holding his stomach. Mao growled and attempted to bite his shoulder. Pi moved away as she followed him, still trying to give him a bite, trying to make him stop. People were watching them, amused.

“Hentai!” he cried as Mao’s teeth connected with his shoulder. She pinched him and he yelped. Though in the end, she was laughing at herself too. Whatever happens, she was glad that Pi is always there to catch her... Even if she makes a fool of herself. Although he’d be laughing all the way too, but that’s just the way she likes it.

Pi pouted at her with a wounded expression and then smiled as she laughed, looking up at him lovingly. His eyes went to her lips.

“Whut that?” he pointed at them.

Her eyes automatically followed his finger and then his lips met hers, lingering there for a while. They broke apart slowly.

“What did you do that for?” Mao said, pushing him and then glancing around, a little embarrassed. People were looking.

“Whut? I wanted to make everyone jealous,” he grinned goofily at her.

Mao’s eyes softened at him as he stroked her hair. And then she frantically whipped her head left and right.

“What if your fangirls are crawling around here? My life could be in danger!” she cried.

“Whut?” Pi frowned down at her, a bit confused.

Mao shrugged. “I dunno. You just look like someone that has a lot of fangirls.”

“Shouldn’t I be the one who’s worrying about your fanboys? Even in this story they’re all around!”

Mao stared blankly up at him. “I don’t get what you’re saying.”

Pi proceeded into an agitated tirade about how most of the guys in the story (What story?) likes her. Mao could only gape up at him as he continued. She then grabbed his collar and kissed him this time. Pi blinked down at her.

“I just wanted to shut you up,” Mao said sweetly as Pi beamed down at her.

**

THUD.

They didn’t even bother turning around. They watched as Pi and Mao turned to go again. Massu’s stomach growled.

“Let’s go get some food,” Kei-chan said and they stepped over Tego to go.

“Wait! We can’t leave Tego like this!” Massu claimed.

“Sure we can.” Ryo.

Massu shook his head at Ryo. He then took out a pen and a post-it (Yes, he keeps random post-its in his pocket.) and scribbled a message for Tego. ‘Went to get food. Would you like something?’. He then stuck it to Tego’s forehead. The three of them stared down at his work.

“Okay, now we can go.”

**

“Give me a piggyback ride,” Mao suddenly said.

They were now walking (Mao suggested not to do the running dramatically in the airport thing anymore.) towards the VIP lounge hand-in-hand.

“Whut? No way!” Pi said.

“Why not?” Mao pouted. “We haven’t done it. And the VIP lounge is so far!”

“That’s so overdone! We have to be different!” Pi said. “So you carry me then,” he finished.

“You’re the Buta, okay?” Mao rolled her eyes at him.

Pi stuck his tongue out at her and ignored her. She then attempted to jump on his back.

“Get off me! I don’t want to!” he protested. And then went to her back. She should carry him instead. Mao pushed him and then jumped on him again as they continued to bicker.

“Hello? That’s why it’s called a piggyback ride. Ride on the piggy's back,” she said, pointing at him.

Pi growled at her. “Give me a kiss first.”

“Heh? We’ve already kissed twice in this epilogue.”

“So what?”

“Oblublublublublu~”

“Whut?” Blank stare.

“Coz we’re supposed to be going to a dream sequence right now,” Mao explained, frowning in confusion a bit.

“What are you talking about?”

“I really don’t know…”

“Shut me up now,” Pi said, as Mao pushed his pursed lips away, teasing him.

Ah… La belleza de la carne de cerdo y frijoles… (Ah… The beauty of pork & beans…)

Lo que el flan? (What the pudding?)

Chapter 18: Pork & Beans

Chapter 18: Pork & Beans

Pi pulled the curtains, resulting to Mao’s shrieks. She was in the tub, having a bubble bath. She glared up at him, teeth gritted, holding a strawberry-banana shake in her hand.

“Get the pudding out of here!”

Pi gazed down at her. The look in his eyes… “I want a taste…”

“Whut?”

“A taste of your strawberry-banana shake.”

Mao stared, wide-eyed up at him. And then…

“How about I make you one then?”

It was Pi’s turn to stare. “R-Right now?”

“Why not? It’s especially just for you to enjoy…,” Mao said huskily and started to stand up.

Someone bopped him on the head with a magazine, taking him back to reality. Belatedly realizing he had been giggling giddily biting into his fingers. Mao. She was looking at him suspiciously.

“What are you so high about?”

“N-Nothing.” He can’t help remembering that particular dream sometimes. It had been too vivid, although suddenly feeling guilty for being such a hentai.

“I bet he’s having perverted thoughts about you!” Tego said, indignant.

Pi scowled at him. “I was thinking of having strawberry-banana shake!”

“I don’t even want to know,” Mao said, rolling her eyes as she turned to the magazine and flipped a page. “Hey, Buta! It’s Hey Say Jump!”

“I am NOT a fan!”

“Wait, they’re all topless. What are they? Seven?” Mao said, frowning down at the page. “ It’s almost like child pornography!”

“Blame it on Johnny’s Entertainment, the evil organization that’s trying to take over the world with flashy ‘I-am-being-violated-as-a-human-being’ costumes and fruity dancing!” Massu.

“Johnny’s Entertainment? Oh yeah, known for producing pretty boys with no actual talent,” Mao said thoughtfully.

Silence. Mao looked up from the magazine. “Whut?”

“For some reason, I kinda got offended by that remark,” Ryo said, scratching his chin.

They all mumbled in agreement.

“You don’t have to be so harsh, you know?” Pi pouted.

Mao stared at them with a ‘What the Pudding?’ expression. Oookay… She then turned back to the magazine as Pi pulled her closer. She automatically settles into him as they looked at the magazine. Pi softly nuzzling her. She flipped a page. Pi flipped it back. He wasn’t finished! Mao flipped it over again and nudged him with her elbow.

Kei-chan observed the two of them thoughtfully, still lost in their own little world.

“That’s it? That’s your story?” he suddenly blurted out.

“Whut?” Mao and Pi.

“It wasn’t as dramatic and action-packed as I would have imagined it,” Kei-chan said, somehow disappointed.

“Whut? There’s nothing wrong with our story!” Mao defended, somehow, and she didn’t know why, taking offence at what Kei-chan said. Pi echoed her thoughts, looking sullenly at Koyama.

“There’s one huge hole in it! I should have ended up with Mao!” Tego muttered, pouting.

“You found out he’s rich and you just accept it. Not much drama about it?”

“Hey, if I find a rich guy who loves me so much, why would I complain?” Mao said, matter-of-factly. “Come on. He’s rich! Who would say no to that?”

“Wow, you’re such a romantic. I feel so loved,” Pi said sarcastically, shooting her a dark look.

Mao smiled at him sweetly. “Anything for you, my bumblePi.”

Pi smiled despite himself and suddenly hugged her. “I wanna squish my marshMaollow.”

“My little lovebug.”

“What’s happening? What’s happening?” Tego exclaimed. Massu had quickly covered his eyes and ears to avoid another fainting spell.

“Please, just put a bullet in my head,” Ryo said, disgusted at the two sitting on the couch who was stifling their laughter.

Kei-chan slammed his palms on the table. “This is unacceptable!”

Everyone jumped and stared at him. What was up with him?

“Your story doesn’t cut it, okay? It’s such a boring story to tell your grandchildren! What I think should have happened…,” Kei-chan started.

Massu’s ears perked up. “Can you make it drama-like? And what could the title of their story be?”

“Pork & Beans,” Kei-chan said automatically.

“I would so watch that,” Massu said, suddenly feeling hungry again.

Mao wrinkled her nose at him.

“And what’s the theme song?”

“As long as it isn’t sung by Arashi. They have like, whut, twelve million singles?” Pi said bitterly as Mao stared at him.

“Make Mao end up with me in the end!” Tego gushed as a cushion (thrown by Pi) bounced off his head.

“Retards,” Ryo said, rolling his eyes.

“I’m going to start now,” Kei-chan said, rubbing his hands together. Despite themselves, Mao and Pi were a bit curious as to what he had in mind.

“Oblublublublublu~” Kei-chan then said, wiggling his fingers.

They all stared at him.

“Whut? It means we’re going into a dream sequence. Haven’t you guys watched Wayne’s World?”

Blank stares. Kei-chan waved that away.

Oblublublublublu.

==

Yada. Yada. Blah. Blah. Mao. Shun. Broken up. Mao, still in her humiliating Keroro slippers (Pokemon would have been so much cooler) was now running towards the man she loves. The only man that had made her love herself for her, made her feel she was the most beautiful person in the world… The one she had seen naked in the shower…

==

{“Okay, why do you have to bring that up?” Mao demanded as Pi blushed.}
{“It’s true, isn’t it? Well, okay, it’s beside the point. Got it."}

==

Erase the fact about the naked in the shower thing. Mao thought her heart would literally jump out of her chest as anticipation of finding Pi, telling him her feelings, and then watch his face light up and then give her that look that makes her breathless everytime filled her every being… She bit her lip as she let her feet take her away when suddenly she was pulled back. She yelped and then crashed face first into someone. Looking up, dazed and confused, it took a while for her to realize it was-

“Shun!” she exclaimed. What was he doing here?

Shun looked down at her. His eyes had a determination in them that worried her. He had let her go, right?

“I can’t, Mao. I can’t do it,” Shun said as he tightened his hold on her arms.

Mao looked up at him with pleading eyes. “Shun… we’ve been through this… Please… Why are you doing this?”

“Because you’re the only one that can make my world right…,” he said softly. “I found you… I’m not going to make another mistake of letting you go…”

==

{“Wow, those lines… You better make my lines better than his,” Pi said.}
{“Hai, hai.”}
{"Seriously. Retards."}

==

“And also because the second male lead always becomes stubborn and persistent even if he knows the girl can never love him,” Shun continued.

Heh? Mao stared up at him. Suddenly, from the distance, a pink vespa came rounding out the corner. In the blink of an eye, it had zoomed towards them and Mao was suddenly pulled on it out of Shun’s grasp. They rode away as Shun could only blink at the sudden turn of events.

Mao held on tight to the guy who had just helped her. She wished it was Pi (as the pink vespa was familiar) but it wasn’t him…. She would know if it was… She closed her eyes… Shun wasn’t going to let this off easily…

==

Mao got off. They had stopped in front of her building. She turned towards the guy. As she observed his pink goggles and pink helmet, he looked familiar… The guy reached up and took them off.

“Sho!” she exclaimed. “T-Thanks for that. It’s such a wonder how you knew…”

“I just know,” Sho answered, in a raspy voice.

“Why are you talking in that raspy voice?”

==

{Okay, Massu, since you’ve obviously butted into the story, why is Sakurai speaking in that voice?” Koyama asked pointedly.}
{That’s so he can hide the fact he’s Sakurai. He’s disguising his voice. Mao will not recognize him,” Massu explained, chewing. “He’s going to be the mysterious character who’s saving Mao.”
{Silence.}
{"Um… Meat Bun? I’ve already seen his face in the story though…,” Mao said slowly.}
{"Oh, shoot. Okay, I’ll handle this,” Massu replied.}

==

“So you won’t recognize me,” Sho answered in that same raspy voice.

“But-,” Mao started and then suddenly jumped back startled.

“Why do you have a Masked Rider Black headgear thingy on?!”

Sho reached up and felt his head. “I have no idea.”

“This is creepy. I’ll help you take it off,” Mao volunteered as Sho nodded.

Sho had bent down as Mao tried to pry the headgear thingy off, her foot pushing on Sho’s stomach. It still won’t budge.

“Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow…”

==

{SLAP! “Ow!” Massu shouted at Koyama.}
{Ryo cackled like crazy. “That segment was a bit unnecessary.”}
{“This isn’t going anywhere. Don’t interrupt me again,” Koyama said.}

==

Mao and Sho (who’s headgear thingy has magically disappeared) heard footsteps coming from behind them. They turned around. Toma.

“What are you doing here?” Mao demanded.

“As my revenge for Yamashita suddenly punching me that one time (Can I not be punched this time?), I am going to reveal his biggest secret!”

Mao and Sho gasped exaggeratedly. Toma smirked smugly.

Pause. “Wait, what was the secret again? Hold on. I’ve written it here somewhere.”

He started rummaging through his pockets as Mao and Sho looked on. Mao stifled a yawn. Toma took out a bunch of tarot cards from his pockets and also some photos (that looked suspiciously like Ohno Satoshi, looking high). Okay. Who is Ohno Satoshi again?

“Ah-ha! Here it is! Yamashita is in fact rich!” he exclaimed victoriously.

Mao and Sho’s eyes widened.

“Oh. No. That. Lying. Pig.” Mao said in a monotone as if reading a script.

“He. Has. Lied. To. You. But. I. know. You. Won’t. be. Swayed. By. This. You. Have. Known. The. Real. Him.” Sho reacted in the same tone.

“So is that it?” Sho then turned to Toma.

“Yeah, I think it is.”

“We’re good then,” Mao said as Toma gave two thumbs-up and started to leave.

“Wait,” Sho called. “I still have to punch you.”

“Wh-What?” Toma cried as Sho flexed his hands.

“Sorry, it’s just the way it is.”

Toma sighed. “Fine. Let me do the evil laugh first, okay? A-ha-ha-ha-ha!”

Sho’s fist connected with his jaw.

==

{“You are ruining the story!” Koyama yelled at Massu as Mao and Pi were doubled up in laughter on the couch. Mao leaned against Pi, weak from laughing.}
{“I thought it would be good,” Massu squeaked.}
{Ryo had stood up to prepare some instant noodles, feeling as if he was the only sane person in the room.}
{“This story sucks!” Tego commented.}

==

Pi is rich? Why? Why didn’t she see it? Ignoring the fact that this is a fan fiction. So is that why he has suddenly gone missing? He’s already had enough? Is his confession, all that he said a lie too? She kicked angrily at a stone. The nerve of him! And she had been ready to admit all her feelings to him!

“Mao!”

That voice… She would know it anywhere…. She turned around and saw Pi purposefully walking towards her. Her heart pounded. Whatever she found out, her heart was more focused on a different matter...

==

{“Ah, finally I’m here. I was wondering when I would be coming out,” Pi said.}
{“How self-absorbed of you,” Mao retorted, earning a glare from Pi.}

==

She was suddenly startled to see a group of reporters dash past Pi.

“I think that’s the one Yamashita Tomohisa is in love with!”

As the reporters ran towards her, followed by Pi, who was filled with worry, she stood there unable to move. Did she look okay? Was there something in her teeth? How would she look on TV? She thought, secretly wishing someone would tape this.

The reporters then blew past her. What the pudding? And started harassing the person who was behind her, a few feet away, shooting quick questions.

“I am NOT Inoue Mao! Hello! I’m a guy!” Tego yelled.

“You’re too pretty to be a guy.”

And they continued to swarm him as Mao could only stare at them, mouth hanging open. She admits Tego is prettier than her but this… She was suddenly whirled around.

“I know you already know. You weren’t the only one Toma shared the information with. This doesn’t change anything though.”

They could hear Tego yell, “That’s them! Look! They’re having a moment and you’re keeping me from ruining it!”

Mao snatched her arm away as she avoided Pi’s eyes. Looking into them, she knew she’d falter.

Pi gazed down at her. “Please don’t do this, Mao.”

She felt a tingle as her name came out of his lips. She had missed him. Missed him so much she could just hug him and never let go… but things… have gotten a lot more complicated…

The reporters finally got it and moved to her, leaving Tego looking exhausted. They thrust their microphones at her, bumping her on the head, giving slight feedback. She couldn’t understand all the questions directed at her. It was too much! She had to get out of there! As she turned to leave, Pi’s voice held her back.

“Do you love me, Mao? That’s all I want to know. That’s all that matters! I can’t see anyone but you… Why can’t it be the same for you?”

==

{“How do you come up with these things, Koyama?” Pi asked.}
{Koyama smiled smugly. Tego rolled his eyes.}
{“I saw that!”}

==

Mao turned around slowly. Her eyes locked with Pi’s. Those eyes…. She wanted to erase the hurt he had in them… She should just say it… as her feet walked towards him… Everyone around them became silent, observing the two… She was now standing in front of Pi, his eyes searching her face for an answer.

SLAP! Pi’s eyes widened as he sort of froze. His cheek stinging. Another SLAP! No. His cheeks stinging.

==

{“What the pudding?!” Pi turned his accusing stare at Koyama.}
{“It wasn’t me!”}
{“I’ve always wanted to slap someone whenever I’m so angry. Don’t you ever wonder how that feels like?” Mao said, as if in a daze. “Never done it though.”}
{“Why do you have to slap me twice?”}
{“It’s more dramatic!”}
{Pi growled at her.}

==

Mao closed her hands into fists. They hurt… She almost wished she could undo it. But she thought ending it will be best… There was nothing for them in the end… Right?

“Is that your answer?” Pi asked in a hollow voice.

She looked up at him, lips quivering. No, it isn’t! she wanted to say it so bad. She didn’t trust herself to speak and turned away.

“If you’re asking me to give up, that’s impossible! I can never give you up. I would never…,” he choked out.

He watched helplessly as Mao walked away. His heart crushed. Tego had fallen into step with her and was now comforting her. He looked back at Pi, his eyes solemn. And then… gave a smug smirk.

Pi’s face twitched. That- He’s holding Mao too close! He had started forward to stop them but the swarm of reporters closed in.

==

{“I thought you said this story sucks. Then why do you want to be in it?” Pi snapped.}
{“Coz I’m here to save it now,” Tego said, making a face at him.}
{“Bad idea. Bad idea,” Ryo chanted as he slurped his noodles.}
{“At least Massu’s stopped butting in,” Koyama said.}

==

“Are you alright?” Tego asked as he looked at Mao, concern filling his face. She was looking a little pale. They stopped as the light turned red.

Mao nodded her head. But obviously it was the complete opposite. Mao held onto Tego’s arm for support, feeling like her legs were about to give in.

“I hate seeing you like this. And I hate the fact that I can’t do anything about it,” Tego said, a frown creasing his brow.

She was really lucky to have so many people around her to support her. “Yoshi… I’m just happy I have a friend beside me…”

Tego’s eyes clouded. “ But you know I want to be able to do something for you… not as a friend… I want to be more than that…”

Mao’s eyes snapped to him. Tego raised his hand to brush away her hair gently as he moved closer to her.

PWAHAHAHA!

{“You’re ruining the moment, Mao!” Tego pouted as Mao covered her mouth to stifle her laughter. Pi was sitting there glaring darkly at Tego.}
{“I-I’m sorry, Yoshi,” Mao said, gasping for air. “You know I adore you, but never in that way.”}
{Pi smirked smugly at Tego. He put his arm around Mao. Tego’s eyes were mere slits.}
{“Let me finish!”}
{“Okay, okay,” Mao said, still giggling. “Reeeeeemiiiiiiixxxxxxx!”}
{Blank stares. “I mean, reeeeeeewiiiind!”}

==

Ignore the Mao laughing like a psycho part. Mao’s eyes snapped to him. Tego raised his hand to brush away her hair gently as he moved closer to her. But all of a sudden, what’s that! Tego suddenly slips and then falls out onto the road. He then got hit by a bus.

==

{“That was uncalled for!” Tego yelled at Ryo.}
{Ryo gave a bored smirk. “I think it’s cool.”}
{“Nobody gets to die here, okay?” Koyama chided.}
{“Whut? I’m not going to kill him off. He’ll just be paralyzed and unable to speak. Now wouldn’t that be great?”}
{Pi snickered. Tego sat there seething in anger.}

==

Again. Again. But suddenly he slips and was about to end up on the road. Mao pulled him back in time as a bus zoomed out of nowhere past them.

“Y-You saved my life!” he said, clutching at his chest.

“Be more careful, okay? I don’t want to lose you now.”

Tego looked at her with stars in his eyes. “For that Mao, I give myself to you. You can do anything you want with me.”

Mao stared at him. “Uh… That’s okay, Yoshi…”

“No, I insist!”

“No, I insist.”

The light had turned green and Mao started forward.

“How about just the weekends then?” Tego asked, falling into step beside her.

==

Mao stood outside Pi’s door. After that disastrous meeting they had, she thought he wasn’t going to come back. But she heard him come home last night. She had been waiting. Waiting like an idiot. He had stood outside her door for a moment and she had held her breath, heart pounding. Just screaming at herself to just open the door and jump into his arms. But she didn’t and she heard Pi go back to his room, and she was left tossing and turning the whole night.

She knocked on the door. What was she doing now? She didn’t know. Her whole being just felt so alive as she anticipated the look on Pi’s face when he opens the door. But that never happened. Frowning, she tried the door. It was unlocked. Peeking in carefully, her jaw dropped. His room was bare, almost as if he’d never been there.

She slowly stepped inside. Apart from something (that looked suspiciously like an old poster of an actor she had, ripped into shreds) in the trash can, there was no sign that Pi had been in her world. Her eyes noticed a piece of paper lying on the table. Slowly, she picked it up, hand slightly trembling.

Dear Mao,

I have left because I have realized that what I felt for you was nothing more than curiosity. You were different… something I’ve never had in my life… But the slap (or should I say the TWO slaps *glare*) you gave me woke me up to the reality that I was never really in love with you. It was all just something new to me. That was it. I got carried away but I’ve moved past it now. And no, if you’re thinking this is something I’m lying about to make you forget about me, make you think I’m not in love with you because someone has a hand in this and I have to listen to them so you won’t get hurt, no, it isn’t. Na-uh. Nope. All my decision. Have I said this is all me?

Hugs & Kisses,
Pi

Mao stared at the letter, heart wrenching. (Not really getting the big clue Pi just gave.). Tears burned in the back of her eyes… He was gone… He was really gone…

==

“Where is Mao? She really needs to sort things out with Pi. Those two…,” Koyama said, shaking his head. Why would Pi suddenly think of leaving? He thought he would never give Mao up…

They all sat in his room, looking glum. Ryo was staring transfixed at the television.

“Can you watch your porn later, Ryo? We need to watch the news coz there’s something we need to watch, I feel,” Massu said loudly.

==

{“Hi…,” Massu said as Ryo gave him a death glare.}

==

Ryo stashed away his porn and they watched the news.

“And now we go to the scene at the Yamashita’s, holding a ridiculously extravagant party apparently to celebrate a future merger with another ridiculously rich family. Oh, how delightful.”

They all stared. Wait a minute…

“Doesn’t that newscaster look like Sakurai Sho?” Tego exclaimed, pointing.

“You’re right! But he doesn’t look like someone who would be a newscaster. He’s more likely to be in some kind of boyband. You know, the supposed ‘rapper’,” Massu said, rubbing his chin.

“I think he also has the look of a serial killer,” Koyama observed.

“As this party is going on, it’s the best time for friends to meddle in their friends’ love story and help them get together,” the newscaster who looks like Sakurai Sho said.

“There’s Pi!” Massu exclaimed, as a shot of him flashed by.

“Even though security is tight, they’d have no trouble trespassing into the property and crashing the party,” the newscaster who looks like Sakurai Sho continued, giving a hearty chuckle.

“I really wish we can do something for them…,” Koyama said sadly.

“You idiots!” the newscaster who looks like Sakurai Sho yelled, pointing at them from the television.

They all jumped and stared at him, wide-eyed. Was he talking to them?

“I’ve been giving you hints all this while! Just go to the party and knock some sense into Yamashita!” the newscaster who looks like Sakurai Sho ordered. “Include Mao in that while you’re at it!”

They blinked at him. And then turned to each other, understanding dawning in their eyes. They turned back to the TV. Heh? The newscaster who looks like Sakurai Sho was gone. An empty chair was all that was left.

==

{Kei-chan rubbed his temples hard. “What the pudding are you going on about?”}
{“Are you on shrooms or something?” Ryo asked frowning at Massu.}
{“You wanted action-packed! There should be romance, comedy, drama, horror…,” Massu defended.}
{“Horror?! How do you expect to put that in?!”}
{“We have Ryo don’t we?”}
{“What did you say?” Evil glare.}
{“I don’t want to help Mao and Pi get together!” Tego whined.}

==

Mao was walking aimlessly as the realization that Pi was out of her life was slowly sinking in… and she didn’t expect it to leave her feeling this lost… Suddenly, a familiar sound of a pink vespa came up behind her. She sighed resignedly and as expected she was snatched off the street and they rode off.

Mao looked up at the mansion that loomed above them, feeling a rush of dread mixed with a little anticipation. Pi didn’t want her anymore. Why would she want to ask him to take her back? What was the point? And she had her pride!

Mao then jumped into the air from the backseat, did a double flip and then landed neatly on her feet as Sho stared at her.

==

{“I’m doing back flips in the air?” Mao blinked at him.}
{“A little kung-fu doesn’t hurt. Ai-ya!” Massu said, a gyoza in his mouth.}
{“Somebody please just strangle him… Please…,” Koyama pleaded weakly.}

==

“Why are you doing this, Sho?” Mao asked. “I really shouldn’t be here. It’s over.”

“You’re pork & beans. It’s never going to be over,” Sho smiled.

BEEP! BEEP! He then drove off, hair flying behind him.

“Ma-ki-no!” she heard someone call from behind her.

==

{“Makino?!” Mao exclaimed, confused.}
{“You know that sounds really familiar…,” Pi said, deep in thought.}
{“Ehem. Sorry about that,” Koyama said.}

==

Ignore said reference to drama. “Mao!” she heard someone call from behind her.

She whipped her head around and there stood Kei-chan, Ryo, Massu and Nino (Tego didn’t want to help) each holding a flower bouquet, reminiscent of a group of four people named G4. Or was it E4? Couldn’t be F4. That just sounds stupid.

Mao stared. “What’s up with the flowers?”

They stared at it and then shrugged, tossing the bouquets over their shoulders as they started walking towards her all cool. In slow motion. Whut? Mao waited for him to finish.

“You guys…”

They all smiled down at her, ready to help her bring her Buta back…

And then, “We’re bringing Buta back. (Yeah!) I don’t know why but we have to act (Yeah!)…”

They all stared at Massu and then floated away from him, leaving him singing.

==

They had successfully blended in with the crowd (Surprise! Surprise!). They split up trying to find Pi. Mao weaved through the crowd when a hand clasped over her arm and someone pulled her to them.

“I vant you,” Toma whispered in her ear, in a weird Dracula accent.

==

{“H-Help,” Massu choked, hands reaching out, as Koyama was strangling and shaking him at the same time. The others just looked on.}

==

Toma crumpled to the floor. (Why me?) The other guests looked scandalized and turned away from the scene. Mao stared up at Shun who was straightening up his suit. Wow, almost anyone can come to this party.

He then turned to her. She took a step back, feeling wary, remembering what he had said to her. That he wasn’t letting go…

“I wanted to see if you’d come here today. I saw you slap him on TV. I thought maybe I’d have another chance. But… you came… you just can’t help it…”

Well, technically, it was Sho who had pulled her here. But yes, eventually… she will still go and find Pi…

Shun regarded her silently. His heart had known all along though…There was no use… “Be very happy with him, okay?” he finally said.

Mao looked up at him and nodded. Pi saw her from the top of the stairs and purposefully went towards her, his eyes never leaving her, oblivious of everyone, even Shun. He reached out his paw, intending to whirl her around- Wait. His paw?? He looked down. He was in the bunny suit! All the people around him stared at the spectacle that he was.

==

{“It wasn’t me,” Massu choked out as Koyama strangled him again.}
{Pi jerked his thumb at Mao wordlessly. She snorted as she stopped herself from laughing.}

==

Pi whirled her around (not in a bunny suit, ‘kay?) Shun left them without a word, still unable to look at the two of them together.

“What are you doing here?” he asked in a low voice.

“I-“

“Inoue Mao?”

Mao turned her head to her left. GD was standing there a bemused smile on his face. And then started walking towards her looking all fly (with his original permed hair), his strut, his eyeliner… Ahhh… Just heaven... Except for that headband though.

==

{“Fangirling! Fangirling!” Pi accused, pointing at her signalling to Koyama to make her stop.}
{“Whut? I just wanted him to come out again!”}
{“Fine! You have G-Dino then!” Pi pouted as he crossed his arms.}

==

“How ya been?” GD asked, smiling down at her.

“W-What are you doing here?” Mao asked. Pi’s scowls aimed at the both of them

“I don’t get it too. But I’m glad to see you here. How about we go out and party some time?” he asked, flashing his famous smile. Gaaaah…

“Ehem!” Pi cleared his throat. Mao and GD turned to him. They then jumped as a girl had appeared out of nowhere beside him.

“This is my date. Yoon Eun Hye,” Pi said pointedly, intending it for Mao.

Eun Hye smiled at her as Mao could only stare at how pretty she is. Pi gave a smug smirk. Ha!

“Can I have your autograph?” Mao suddenly asked. “I’m a huge fan!”

==

{“Stop messing it up!” Pi scowled at her.}
{“Whut? I like her!”}
{“Are you guys all on crack or something?! Why are you going crazy?! The story’s all over the place!” Koyama sobbed. His precious story…}
{“We need to go crazy coz our story’s about to end soon,” Massu explained, pouting.}
{They all nodded sadly at Koyama. Koyama sighed. They all looked at each other.}
{“Oblublublublublu,” they chorused, wiggling their fingers.}

==

Pi’s face twitched. “What are you talking about?”

Eun Hye then grinned at her. And then said, “Okay.”

Suddenly a bus came rumbling around the corner, heading fast towards them and then hit GD, sending him flying.

==

{“What the pudding? That’s too impossible! It can’t happen! KoyaMama!” Mao whined.}
{“It can too!” Pi defended.}
{Koyama was looking dazed, rubbing ointment on his temples.}

==

Okay, no bus came but Tego was walking towards them his eyes full of determination, his steps had only one destination. Mao. His eyes took in the scene with the four: Mao, Pi, Yoon Eun Hye (Oooh, have to ask for her autograph too.), and GD (Why is he wearing a headband?) You know those scenes in dramas when they just stand there, looking awkward and angsty at each other? The scene was just like that.

Tego pulled Mao to him. Pi’s eyes snapped dangerously to him. Mao could only stare up at Tego, not having ever seen this side of him.

Tego then spread his arms wide and closed his eyes blissfully. “Take me, Mao.”

Heh?

==

{“I swear I’m going to slap you like there’s no tomorrow,” Ryo said.}
{“Whut?” Tego said, as Mao tried to stifle her laughter.}
{“Can the bus appear again?” Pi asked, raising his hand up.}
{Koyama almost had a nosebleed from all the stress.}

==

Pi snatched Mao’s hand and then dragged her away, not really caring if they were making a scene or that ‘someone’ might see them (see Pi’s letter to Mao for reference). Mao tried hard to pull free from Pi’s grasp. She bit him, hit him on the head, kicked him, everything but to no avail.

Pi pushed her into a room and slammed the door shut behind him. Mao whirled around to face him as Pi stepped closer to her. They stared at each other silently, as if ready for battle.

“W-What do you want?” she asked, not willing to back down.

“I should be asking you that!” he glared down at her. Her presence was making his resolve drain away…

Mao’s eyes clouded. “ I just want to thank you for that lovely letter you wrote!”

Damn. That letter. He didn’t want to do that to her. But if he didn’t…

“What letter?”

“Whut?”

“Who are you? Why am I here?”

“Are you pretending to have amnesia?”

“Well, from the way you hit my head earlier it wouldn’t be impossible!” he growled at her, his head tender.

“Really? I thought I wasn’t hitting hard enough!”

“What are you really here for?” he asked, serious.

“I-I-,” she stammered. “S-Sho made me do it!” That wasn’t the right thing to say, she winced as Pi’s looks became darker.

“Made you do it huh? Why can’t you just admit your feelings?” he yelled. With Mao in front of him, all the other things seemed insignificant. He didn’t care… That ‘someone’ can’t do anything to stop him anymore… He wanted Mao…

“B-Because…,” he watched her stammer. “I have leukemia. Cough. Cough.”

“What?!” Pi cried, his eyes widening.

“I’m just kidding!” she abruptly said. What made her say that?

“Don’t do that! Are you crazy?!” he shouted as he grabbed her arms.

Mao looked up at him. The overwhelming urge to tell him everything poured into her. She was ready to throw her pride away.

“Pi, I-“

Suddenly the door burst open and in stepped a woman, obviously the evil mom (who had uneven eyebrows too, reminiscent of another evil mom) flanked by a number of guards.

“Cuál es el significado de esto, Tomohisa? (What is the meaning of this, Tomohisa?)” the woman demanded, glaring at how he was holding on to Mao.

==

{“Seriously? Seriously?” Ryo said in disbelief.}
{“Who the hell has a good command of Spanish here?!” Koyama said.}
{“We have an online translator. Duh!” Massu.}
{“I kinda am curious to hear Pi speak in Spanish,” Mao snickered.}
{“Hola!”}
{"Ir mal Señora Yamashita! (Go evil Mrs. Yamashita!)” Tego cheered.}

==

“Se trata de ninguno de su negocio, madre! No voy a ser más amenazadas! (This is none of your business, mother! I won’t be threatened anymore!)” Pi glared at the unfeeling woman in front of him, as he held Mao closer to him.

“QuĂ© está usted hablando, Pi? (What are you talking about, Pi?)” Mao asked, dramatically searching his face, holding onto the front of Pi’s shirt.

“Ella amenazĂł con hacer su vida miserable si no me dejo. Aunque ahora, no me importa. I hará que usted, Inoue Mao. Nadie va a doler usted. (She threatened to make your lives miserable if I don’t leave you. Though now, I don’t care. I will have you, Inoue Mao. No one’s going to hurt you.),” he said, gazing down softly at her.

“Si ir con ella, yo le disown! (If you go with her, I will disown you!),” she warned.

“No me importa! (I don’t care!)” Pi yelled. He was ready to defy anyone in his way.

In Pi’s arms, she felt the safest. Even if his evil mom was glaring at her with those uneven eyebrows… But she can’t make Pi lose everything…

“No, Pi (No, Pi),” Mao said quietly. Pi’s bewildered eyes went to her.

“Por favor, no hacer nada con hacerle daño a Pi… voy a salir… (Please don’t do anything to hurt Pi… I will leave….).”

Evil laughter erupted from his mom’s lips. You can say she got that down.

Pi shook her lightly. “QuĂ© haces? No voy a dejar que salga sin mĂ! (What are you doing? I’m not going to let you leave without me!)”

“No se obtiene? Estoy dispuesto a dejarte ir…… Esto significa simplemente que he admitido mi verdaderos sentimientos a usted… (Don’t you get it? I’m willing to let you go… This means… I’ve just admitted my true feelings to you…),” Mao’s voice shook as she cast her eyes down, feeling limp. She felt Pi’s hands slowly slide down off her.

Another evil laugh. “Esa es una sabia elecciĂłn, queridos. Además, los dos de los encuentros que usted es más que imposible. Hay una probabilidad de que dos son hermanos. (That is a wise choice, dear. Besides, the two of you getting together is more than impossible. There is a chance you two are siblings.)”

“QuĂ©?! (What?!)” they both yelped, jumping away from each other.

==

{Tego was pelted with whatever Mao and Pi’s hands could reach. Even the others joined in.}
{"Okay, sorry!” Tego yelled, hurting and sore.}

==

A guard whispered something into her ear.

She cleared her throat. “Bueno. Me dijo que el mal lĂneas. En cualquier caso, sĂłlo se mantenga alejado de ella, Tomohisa. (Okay. I said the wrong lines. Anyway, just stay away from her, Tomohisa.)”

“¿Puedo tener un burrito, por favor? (Can I have a burrito please?)” Pi said, dazed.

“Me encanta mi burro! (I love my donkey!)” Mao softly said, trying to avoid looking at Pi as her heart was wrenching.

==

{“Whut?” they all chorused.}
{"Okay, the online translator is acting up on me. Grrr…”}

==

The door burst open again. In stepped Kei-chan, Massu, Ryo and Nino, their faces set.

“No se preocupe, mis amigos, estamos aquĂ para ayudar (Don’t worry, my friends, we are here to help),” Kei-chan announced in a booming voice.

“Ha sido un tiempo desde que he golpeado a alguien hasta (It’s been a while since I’ve beaten someone up.),” Ryo said as he cracked his neck.

“Usted estará seguro, Mao (You’ll be safe Mao.),” Nino reassured.

“Arriba! Arriba! (I don’t know what else to say!)” Massu said defensively as they stared at him.

“Lanza meddlers que los actos como si fueran el grupo de niños ricos en este popular drama! No sĂ© cuál es el nombre del grupo es! DeberĂan avergonzarse de sĂ mismos! (Get them!)”

Chaos ensued as they fought with the guards. They somehow had all become really good fighters. Who knew? Mao even spotted Kei-chan doing a move reminiscent of the Matrix. In the rumble, Pi and Mao got separated. Pi was occupied with two guards, as he gave them a beating. A guard suddenly grabbed Mao and she struggled with him. She managed to grab a vase off the table and hit him with it.

“Oh my God! You killed Kenny!” a fellow guard had yelled.

==

{…}

==

“There’s too many of them!” Ryo yelled. He then ran towards Mao and grabbed her as they sped off to the balcony. He climbed onto the ledge. Mao stared up at him.

“I am not jumping. Have you gone mad?” she demanded.

“Trust me,” Ryo said, smirking. He pulled her up. He really is crazy, she thought as she took one last look behind her; pandemonium still present.

"Go! Just go!" Kei-chan yelled.

"Go! Go! Power Rangers!" Massu.

Ryo and Mao stared blankly at him for a second. And then Ryo pulled her with him.

==

{…}
{“Ai-ya!” Massu explained.}

==

“Come on, I need to give you a piggyback ride!” Ryo said, glaring at Mao who was being uncooperative.

Mao stared at him in disbelief. “I can walk fine!”

“Yeah right. I know your feet’s all sore now. Come on! Every drama has to have a piggyback ride!”

Mao growled at him. And then in the end, Ryo was carrying her on his back as they slowly made their way home.

“You’re heavy.”

“I told you no shots about that!” Mao yelled, as she bopped him on the head.

Ryo chuckled softly. Mao felt a change in his attitude, as she observed the back of his head.

“Stop trying. You won’t be able to read my mind even if you stare a hole in it.”

“I was just wondering if there’s really a brain in there.”

Ryo pretended to throw her off as she yelped.

“Okay, you really wanna know something?” he asked.

Mao thought for a second. “Yep, okay.”

“I have always liked you before…”

==

{“What the pudding are you doing?!” Ryo hissed at Massu as he covered his mouth.}
{Pi had covered Mao’s ears and was doing his best to distract her. Mao tried to throw Pi off. She hadn’t heard anything.}
{“Just stick with the porn, Massu,” Koyama suggested.}
{“Oi!” Ryo protested.}

==

Pi had somehow managed to escape after Koyama and the others. Where was he going? He could only think of Mao. His steps quickened and then he slowed down… Wasn’t she clear about how she felt? Only an idiot would go to her again. But her eyes… He shook his head, scowled at himself and then turned around. He gave a yelp as Koyama, Massu and Nino were standing there, as if modelling, face all serious business. (Ah-ha! D4! That’s the name of the group!)

“Where do you think you’re going?” Koyama asked. “That was the right direction.”

Pi pursed his lips and looked away, remaining silent.

“Catch!” Massu suddenly called.

Pi’s hands then caught a can of pork & beans. What the pudding?

“Hey, don’t look at me. You’re the one who came up with something unromantic like pork and beans!” Koyama said defensively.

“I think you know what to do right?” Nino asked, a small smile on his lips as Pi stared down at the pork & beans, reminding himself about Mao. How she could be stubborn… how she was impossible… how she always needed a good bump in the head (provided by him)…

Massu smiled and then grabbed his shoulder. “Save the cheerleader, save the world.”

==

{“I just always wanted to say it!” Massu explained as he danced away from Koyama’s reach, who was ready to strangle him again. Mao snorted.}

==

Ignore said stupid comment by Massu.

Massu smiled and then grabbed his shoulder. “Well?”

Pi slowly looked up and they knew.

“Where is she?” he asked, as they smiled at him.

==

Fast forward to the scene at Mao’s door.

“Do you think P- they’re alright?” she asked.

“Of course! Don’t worry about them. Just go in and rest,” Ryo reassured.

“But I can’t- Let’s go back. Maybe-,” Mao started.

She is going to ruin the plan, Ryo thought. He insisted she go in as he opened the door for her. Mao pushed him. They struggled for a while and then something fell out of Ryo’s jacket. Mao frowned down at it while Ryo whistled. She bent down to pick it up. It was a porn magazine.

“You haven’t changed have you?” she said flatly, narrowing her eyes at him.

Ryo grabbed the chance and then pushed her into her room, deaf to her protests. He closed the door and grinned.

==

Mao stumbled into the very dark room. She almost had a heart attack when someone spoke up.

“I finally have you alone,” Pi’s voice. She clutched at her chest.

Click.

Pause.

Click. Click. Click. Click. Click.

“This damn lamp,” she felt Pi mutter as noises ensued. It almost sounds like Pi was trying to strangle the said lamp. Mao’s heart pounded. More noises.

“Boo!” Pi’s face suddenly appeared before her, a flashlight shining on it. PUNCH!

==

{“There’s the horror part!” Massu exclaimed, triumphant.}
{…}

==

“Ow!” he yelled in a wounded voice. Mao went and turned on the lights.

“Don’t scare me like that!” she growled.

Pi turned a scowl at her. His hand still rubbing his nose. Mao looked at him, trying to hide her amusement.

“It’s not funny!”

“How did you escape?”

“That’s not important! Do you love me?” he suddenly asked.

“I- I-,” Mao stammered once again. She growled at him.

“I have been honest, Mao… It’s your turn..,” Pi said. “You know... for me the taste of love was that lousy cookie you made.”

“Hallelujah Chance!” Mao cried with the pose.

==

{Koyama threw down the tissue that were rolled up in his nose, owing to the nosebleed. “What the pudding?! Stop copying lines from dramas!”
{“It’s not easy to come up with lines!” Massu pouted.}

==

“Let’s just fall in love, Mao,” Pi then said, his eyes softening at her.

Mao looked at him silently. Was she going to jump into her arms this time?

A sweet smile then appeared on her lips. “Let’s do that… and never stop…”

==

{“Okay, remember this next scene is in slow motion,” Koyama reminded.}

==

In two long strides, Pi had stopped in front of Mao and caught her lips with his. Mao clung to him as their kiss deepened. Nothing was holding her back anymore. Evil mom or not. She was going to be with Pi… Their lips broke apart. Pi caressed her cheeks. Both of them looking at each other breathless. He then gave a smile and then scooped her up in his arms.

==

{“End slow motion!”}

==

“What are you doing?” Mao asked, wriggling.

“We never did the piggyback ride! So this is the alternative. Besides, I like holding you in my arms,” he grinned.

“Cheesy Buta!” she said. “My favourite flavour,” she grinned softly.

Pi nuzzled her and then started whirling around as she laughed in his arms. It wasn’t a good idea though. They were dizzy after a while.

They landed on the bed. Mao still laughing as she covered her face, chiding Pi. Pi had gone quiet. She took her hands away and found him looking at her, his eyes making her blush, making her pulse race…

Mao placed her hand on his cheek as he leaned down and kissed her again, enjoying the taste.

“I love you,” Pi whispered close to her lips.

She could feel his breath-

==

{THUD.}
{“Okay, Tego’s fainted again!” Massu announced.}
{They went to him. Massu waved a gyoza under his nose.}
{“That would only work for you,” Ryo shot at him. He shrugged and popped the gyoza into his mouth.}
{Koyama tried reviving Tego by slapping him gently on the face. Ryo then volunteered to do the slapping.}
{Mao tried to get up to go check but Pi pulled her back. “Why can’t he let the story finish first?” he pouted.}
{“I don’t know. I think I like our version better,” Mao mused, pursing her lips.}
{Pi shrugged and grinned. “I don’t care. As long as I have you in the end.”}
{Mao looked at him. She pinched his nose as he grinned. She bit her lip. Maybe it was the randomness of the situation. Or maybe she just found his expression irresistible. She then leaned close to his ears. “Why don’t we finish the story?”}
{“I love you,” she whispered. “More and more.”}
{She slowly pulled back to Pi’s widened eyes. He suddenly grabbed her in a bear hug. And then pulling back, his eyes softened at her. Gently holding her chin up, he whispered back. “Oink oink?”}
{Pi silenced her giggle. Mao savored the feel of his lips on hers. She slowly opened her eyes…}
{THUD.}
{“Guys, don’t do it before Tego!” Koyama said. He had finally revived him but he had fainted again when he saw Mao and Pi.}
{“Just leave him like that! Geez!” Ryo said, not caring anymore as Massu stood up.}
{Pi and Mao’s eyes locked. They bit their lip and then grinned as Pi purposely leaned closer again...}

Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Mao sat on the same table at the bar the other night, occasionally looking to the entrance. Nino is late, she pouted. She had started on a bottle of soju. Nino didn’t sound too happy. He doesn’t know she wasn’t really trying to drown her frustrations this time. More of… she needed the alcohol and Nino to give her a boost.

She had left early in the morning to avoid Pi. She knew they should really talk. There was something she still needed to say to him… But she was still sore about the fact that he lied… and he had been thinking of leaving…. But after walking around aimlessly for a whole day, clearing her mind, she knew he had to have reasons…

Why was he even thinking of leaving anyway? Wasn’t it because of her? It was partly her fault too… But her pride was sorta keeping her back from finally facing Pi and just telling him the truth. She had been acting pretty immature. Like a brat. She didn’t know brattiness was contagious, as an image of Pi popped into her mind.

Maybe with the help of a few drinks she’ll finally be able to admit her feelings to Pi. She really wished the adrenaline rush from yesterday could come back.

It’s not her fault though! She’s actually never professed love for anyone before. How does one do it? Although she already knows Pi’s feelings for her; it’s just all new to her… It’s just weird… and she’s not really the type to do this… She’d never imagined she’d be doing this… How does one convey their feelings?

“Hey baby boo, be the bee to my honey yo!”

Uh… that doesn’t sound right.

“I’m just a girl… standing in front of a boy… asking him to love her...”

Oookay… that sounds just a teeny bit familiar.

“Oink. Oink.”

Heh?

Okay, so she has to work on that. She knew keeping things simple would be best. (Okay, so maybe she secretly wants her confession to be sort of epic. She’s just a geek that way.) She shook herself mentally, knowing she was just trying to calm her heart down with her overactive imagination. Just thinking about Pi was making her restless… This confession thing kinda feels like bungee jumping. Ugh. Bungee jumping scares the wits out of her… But for Pi…

Where is Nino? She thought, looking back to the entrance again. The door opened and in stepped Pi. Her eyes widened and she ducked under the table. What was she doing? It was Pi! But she wasn’t ready to face him. She took a peek and saw Pi scanning the bar. That Backstreet Boys loving idiot! She thought as Nino’s face popped into her mind.

She squatted down and started duck-walking towards the back of the bar. There had to be a back door here. The few people that she passed just stared at her. This wasn’t really weird. She then stood up, still crouched low as she rounded the corner and bumped her face into someone. She immediately apologized and looked up, her eyes widening.

“Well, if it isn’t Inoue Mao,” Toma smirked crookedly. He looked like he’s had a few drinks.

Of all people… She stood there immobile.

“Where’s Shun eh?” he asked as he stepped closer to her. She started to dart away from him towards the back door when he caught her arm.

Toma looked down at her, frowning as she struggled, telling him to let go of her. Toma continued to stare down at her.

“I could just be really drunk or Shun was right,” he said quietly.

Mao looked up at him, frowning and confused. Thought she didn’t give a damn. She really needed to go before Pi-

Toma suddenly pulled her closer as her eyes widened. What was he doing? Was his mouth leaning towards her. And before she knew it, Toma was now on the floor. She blinked. Pi stood there beside her, glaring down at him. His eyes snapped to her, obviously irked.

“Why do I get beaten up every time?! I’m not a punching bag!” Toma shouted as he looked up to the ceiling.

Pi and Mao followed his gaze. Who was he talking to? Toma sprang back up on his feet and grabbed Pi by the collar, punching him back. Pi scowled darkly. They took swings and ended up pushing each other out the back door and into the alley as Mao kept yelling for them to stop.

They both seemed to be taking their frustrations out on each other. Mao exasperated had ran inside for help and seconds later they were being pulled apart by the bouncers and staff. They pushed Toma in as they called the people he came with. The bouncer told Mao and Pi it was better if they just leave now.

They stood there alone, staring at each other. Her eyes went to the cut on his cheek. His hair was dishevelled, breathing heavily, looking at her with irritation in his eyes. She then wordlessly turned away and started walking.

Pi scowled at her and followed behind. “What? Not even a thank you?”

“I was about to handle it anyway,” she said without looking back.

“He was about to kiss you!”

“I would have handled it if you hadn’t interrupted being all macho!” she huffed.

Why were they fighting again?

Pi growled; frustrated at her. “If you had stayed at your table it wouldn’t have happened!”

Mao glanced back at him and then turned her head back, continuing walking.

“Yeah, the bartender told me there was a weird girl walking a bit funny towards the back door. Stop avoiding me! We need to talk!” he snapped, failing to keep his voice calm.

Yeah, she knows that. But she wasn’t ready as her nervousness was coming back tenfold. And Pi’s agitated voice wasn’t helping. Her mind was a complete blank.

“Will you just stop and face me already? This really can’t wait anymore!” he yelled after her glaring.

He wasn’t going to let her off now. No distractions. No more dragging it out. “I’m not going to let you avoid this until we-“

Mao had flown into his arms and she hugged him tight as she buried her face in his chest. Pi stood frozen for a second and then slowly encircled his arms around her, burying his face in her hair. What was he saying again?

**

“Careful!” Pi yelled, glaring at Mao who had stamped a band-aid on his cheek none too gently.

They sat on the couch. Mao silently dabbed medicine on the bruise on his forehead as Pi gazed at her. They had been silent all the way home. Somehow that hug had thrown him off-balance and it wasn’t till they were back in her room that he was itching to lay everything out. She still wasn’t trying, he thought, peeved.

“Why didn’t you tell me about Shun?” he asked calmly. Mao didn’t look up as she cleared up the first aid kit. She started to stand up. Pi pulled her back down.

“You guys have broken up and he said that after, you were running to find me. Why?” he knew what it could mean but he wanted to hear it from her.

Mao just stared at him silently. Pi’s face was starting to twitch.

“If you don’t speak up soon, I’m going to kiss you!” he warned, narrowing his eyes at her.

Mao continued to just stare at him. Pi then grabbed her arms.

“I’m serious! I will kiss you!” he said as he started to lean forward.

Mao pushed his face away. “You’re a liar.”

Pi sighed. “I’m sorry… I never thought it would end up like this. I was planning on telling you guys. It just never occurred to me… There were more important things. Like you practically taking up most of my thoughts.”

Mao’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly stood up and went to stash the first aid kit away. “So you’re putting the blame on me.”

“No. I’m just saying you got to know the real me. Isn’t that enough? That detail doesn’t change anything.”

Mao closed the cabinet door, her back to Pi. He was right. It doesn’t change anything, especially her feelings towards him. No matter how much she resented the fact that he had lied…

That hug…. She wasn’t able to help it. For some reason, the fact that she had missed him so completely overwhelmed her and she just let her feet take her tom him. Shouldn’t that be a clue to her feelings already? But no, he wanted to hear it straight from her.

“Why did you break up with Shun?” Pi asked her as he got up and turned towards her. Back still to him.

Just say it! She yelled in her head. Why can’t she say it? I loooo… I lo-lo… Ugh. Okay. Maybe there were other ways to express her feeling tight? She can do this.

Okay, nothing is coming up! The thought of saying it out loud was just so foreign to her. It gave her goosebumps in a good and at the same time bad way. How come in dramas it always looks so easy? The leads meet, they gaze into each other’s eyes, saying all those line you don’t hear in real life, cue romantic background music and it’s magic! Duh, Mao. that’s why it’s a drama! And why is she thinking of this when there were more important matters at hand?

As she was having this slightly idiotic conversation with herself in her head, a peeved Pi was trying to catch her attention.

“If you’re still not going to talk, I’m going! And if I’m gone, I won’t be listening to what you have to say!” Okay, so it wasn’t much of a threat.

Maybe if she gives him, a thing that sorta counts as a clue to her feelings? Hmmm… well, she very well can’t bake cookies right now. Heck, she doesn’t even know how to bake. Still oblivious to what Pi was saying.

“I’m going! You hear me?” Pi said, walking towards the door. He grabbed the doorknob and glanced back at her.

She still wasn’t turning around. He scowled and pulled open the door.

“You’ll regret this!” he yelled once more, stepping out as he continued his empty threats. He closed the door behind him.

He poked his head back in a second later. “I’m really gone!”

What if she gets some reference from dramas she had watched in the past? What were they again?

Pi scowled at her back again and slammed the door shut. That brought her out of her reverie. She looked around. Ah, Crap.

**

Pi haphazardly threw his clothes into his suitcase, scowling at no one in particular. She wasn’t even affected! That girl… he thought vehemently as he opened a drawer. Okay, so he wasn’t really serious about leaving. He just wanted to act all tough and dramatic but still he heard nothing from her.

Well then maybe him packing up would get to her. He pulled out his shirts and then his eyes fell on a box. The necklace. He had started to reach for it when…. Was he hearing things? Or is someone singing at his door?

Frowning, he walked towards it. it definitely was singing and he knew that song. He pulled open the door and there she was. Attempting at dancing or more like trying to move her body, looking stiff. Her back to him.

“I’m so sorry girl, I love you I just can’t lie. Oh I was so wrong, I can’t live without you (Please listen to me!). I’m so sorry girl, I love you now I realized should have never let you go away, now my life don’t seem right…,” she sang loudly in an off-key voice.

She finally turned around and froze as she watched Pi regard her silently.

“What are you doing?”

“To cheer you up, I’m singing!” she said perkily, her heart jumping to her throat.

“Why that song? You know I don’t like Big Bang,” he scoffed.

“Because it’s a great song! It’s what put Big Bang on the map!” she defended. “Weren’t you listening to the lyrics?”

“Yeah, I did. You didn’t even change the lyrics! Why are you calling me ‘girl’?”

“I just sing it as it is! Don’t be so nitpicky! I’m already embarrassing myself here!” she said, narrowing her eyes.

“Whut? Did I ask you to sing? And it’s such a lousy way to tell me how you really feel,” he retorted.

Mao glared at him. Lousy? She had been racking her brains out on how to tell him and this suddenly came up to her. Personally, she thinks it’s really cool. Hmph. She started to turn away.

“There you go again. Always running away! Why can’t you just-“

Mao suddenly flung her arms around his neck, pulled him down and kissed him on the lips, standing on tip toe. Pi was staring at her, caught off guard. Mao broke away, her hands sliding down his chest and looked up at him.

“Is that still lousy?” she asked.

Pi gazed down at her. “Yeah, it is.”

Mao looked scandalized and pushed away when Pi suddenly grabbed her arms and pulled her back to him. Mao still glaring at him.

“Coz I haven’t had enough,” he murmured and then swooped down and caught her lips with his.

Mao’s hands found their way back up and linked them around Pi’s neck as their kiss deepened. Pi’s arms slowly encircled around her, wrapping her closer to him, as they slowly backed into his room...

**

Pi hugged Mao closer, a giddy contented smile on his face as they laid there on his bed, loving the feel of her. Mao nuzzled his neck as she bit her lip, brimming with happiness. They laid there for a while just taking in each other, content on hearing each other’s breathing.

“Took you long enough,” Pi then pouted as he looked down at her.

Mao hit him on the chest. “I found out about you being rich. I think I have a right to be slighted.”

“I thought you were never going to let me know…,” he said quietly as he brushed away her hair gently.

Mao bit her lip. She knew she had been a little hard on him.

“The thought had crossed my mind but… then all I could think of was being with you… and all the other things just went from my head… All except you…”

Oh, wow. That just flowed right through her and she had been sweating bullets over it. You can never really know.

Pi smiled softly at her. “What made you change your mind though? Breaking up with Shun and then trying to find me.”

“Ryo gave me your iPod. I saw those clips.”

“W-whut? You saw that?” Pi said in disbelief, suddenly blushing.

Mao grinned at him. “Yeah, you know, if I found out it was a whole other person that had videos of me in his iPod, I would have been majorly creeped out.”

Pi pouted. “Like Tego?”

Mao laughed out loud. “But since it was you… It’s not that stalkerish.”

Pi narrowed his eyes at her and pinched her cheek as she stuck her tongue out.

“And then I just knew I had to find you. I don’t want to think about the what ifs anymore… I just know that whatever happens, we’ll find a way right?”

The way Pi made her feel… She was willing to risk it with him. Because she knows the two of them won’t allow each other to drift away.

Pi gently caressed her cheek. “Always.”

“And I talked to the Sho-racle before that.”

“Ah. The Sho-racle,” Pi said wistfully as he put his palms together as a sign of respect.

“Yeah, I was the one who came up with that,” Mao said smugly.

“No, you didn’t I did!”

“Heh? I did! You can even ask Sho about it!”

They continued to bicker and then suddenly Pi stopped, remembering something. He stood up and went to take something out of a drawer. Mao raised herself up as Pi cam back holding a small box.

“Pedro!” Mao gushed as Pi held up the necklace for her.

“Say his whole name,” Pi teased.

“Pedro Steve-“ Mao started.

“I want to change Steve to Nacho.”

“Why?”

“Because it sounds better! And I want to! Nacho, okay?”

Mao narrowed her eyes at him.

“Fine! Pedro Nacho Chihuahua Supercalifragillisticexpialidocious Spongebob III (The Third). Hey… it does sound better!” she said, sarcastically.

“I knew it would,” Pi said, as Mao rolled her eyes at him and then looked at the necklace again.

Pi smiled widely as Mao looked at it with eyes shining. She laid there as she looked down at it happily after Pi had put it on her. Her eyes went back to him, smiling softly. Pi gazed down at her, his heart racing. The look she was giving him was pulling him in… He then cupped her face and gave her a lingering kiss.

“I love you,” he whispered softly as he caressed her cheek.

Mao’s eyes snapped to him and then she suddenly hugged him, closing her eyes as she buried her face in his neck.

“Aren’t you supposed to say something too?” Pi then said, when Mao had said nothing for a while.

“Heh?”

“Don’t ‘heh’ me,” he said, narrowing his eyes at her.

“Um…,” she really can’t say it. “Wow, I just have a sudden craving for pork and beans…”

Pi stared blankly at her.

“You don’t get it?”

“That’s coz I didn’t hear it. Stop speaking in codes!”

“Well, I sang it for you just now! You’ve heard it already!”

“That doesn’t really count! Why can’t you say it?” he glared.

“Why do I need to say it?” Mao demanded.

“Duh! A guy would obviously want to hear it from his girl!”

“Can we not fight in front of Pedro?” Mao asked, pointing to her necklace.

“Then say it,” Pi said, sounding like a child.

Mao sighed. She looked up at him. He waited.

“Oink. Oink.”

Blank stare. “What the pudding?”

“Oink. Oink. Take it or leave it.”

Pi opened and closed his mouth in disbelief. Mao squeezed his cheeks together. “It’s going to take a while okay? I can’t say it… yet…”

Pi rubbed his cheeks and glanced at Mao. “I don’t know why I fell in love with such a weirdo,” he said, though his voice sounded amused.

“I’m a weirdo? You fell in love with me so that makes you even more of a weirdo then!” she shot back.

But it wasn’t so bad… Finding someone equally weird that can put up with your craziness and weirdness. Not bad at all…

Pi stuck his tongue out. “So you’re saying you’ve never said it to Shun as well?”

Mao shook her head slowly.

“But in his case, maybe you were never really in love with him. It was me all along,” he teased, nudging her.

“Your big head is crowding the bed,” she stated flatly

“So when did you start noticing me?”

“When I saw you in the shower,” Mao joked, snorting.

“Y-You just want my body,” Pi gasped, covering his body dramatically.

Mao gave a smug smirk. “Did you think there was more to it? A-ha-ha-ha!”

Pi’s eyes suddenly went to her, a mischievous glint in them. An evil grin then appeared on his lips. Mao eyed him warily.

“W-Whut?”

Pi suddenly started pulling up his shirt and made to undo his belt. Mao shrieked, jumping off the bed.

“What the pudding are you doing?”

“Well, you said you wanted my body. I’m giving it to you. That’s how much I love you, Mao-tart,” he said, innocently, as he slowly stood up.

“Stay away from me!” Mao warned.

Pi jumped towards her, still pretending to undo his belt. Mao jumped aside avoiding him.

“Stop that, Tomohisa! Or else I’m going to pound you!”

“I love it when you play rough,” he teased, walking towards her. His belt was now off.

“Uwaah-gah!” Mao exclaimed as she ran towards the door. Pi followed her, laughing his head off.

She suddenly stopped in her tracks, startling Pi. And then slowly turned around looking at him. Pi gulped.

“Get away from me!” It was now his turn to yell as Mao tried to pull on his pants, trying to take them off.

“You wanted to take it off, right? I’ll help you!” she said, as she ran around after him. Pi pushing her away each time.

“Uwaah-gah!” he exclaimed.

**

“Wait, listen!” Koyama suddenly said as he stopped in front of Pi’s door. Tego and Ryo looked on as Massu stood beside Koyama.

“What’s up?” Massu asked, as he popped M&Ms into his mouth.

They had just come home and heard voices coming from inside Pi’s room. It sounded like Mao was in there too but they weren’t sure.

“Stop it, you hentai!”

“Hentai? You wanted to take your clothes off earlier!”

“D-Don’t touch that!”

“Take it off ! Take it off!” Mao chanted.

They all stared wide-eyed at each other. Tego looked like he had been struck by lightning.

“So this means they’ve worked things out right?” Massu asked tentatively. “ I mean, since Mao’s trying to get him naked and all.”

They heard someone coming up the stairs. It was Sakurai, listening to music as he whistled to the tune of Big Bang’s “Lies”. Mao had suggested it to him. And he quite liked it. He turned to his room.

“Sakurai! Mao and Pi are-“

“Finally together? Ahh… “Lies”” is such a good song isn’t it?” he said, his mind seeming far off.

And then, “Oh, you guys better get ready to catch Tegoshi.”

“Whut?” they chorused.

THUD.

“That’s why,” Sho said, as he looked down.

They all stared at Tego lying down at their feet.

“I think he’s fainted from the heartbreak,” Ryo said, matter-of-factly as Massu nudged him with his foot.

Slight pause. And then they all turned towards their respective rooms, leaving Tego behind.

“Nooooooooo!” Pi.

“Mwahahahaha!” Mao.

Chapter 16

Chapter 16

Mao stood outside Shun’s apartment, biting her lip nervously. Her eyes went down to her feet again and she winced inwardly, knocking on her head. It could only happen to her. When she had finally decided, everything just went out of her head and she just let her feet take her away.

Inside the train she had called Shun up to let him know she was coming over. She kept her voice steady and calm, not wanting him to know just yet the purpose of her visit. Did Shun notice or suspect anything? His voice didn’t betray anything though.

What was she going to say? How was she going to say it? Her mind frantically searched for answers. She racked her brain over that, and it was a while before she fully noticed the weird stares people were giving her. Earlier she had noticed distractedly people’s eyes seem to be going towards her more often than not but she ignored them, too preoccupied.

An old man across from her seemed to be staring at her feet. She frowned at him. He noticed she was looking and snapped his eyes away. She then looked down and then mouth dropping stared wide-eyed at her feet. She was in her Keroro slippers!

Uwaah-gah! She tried to act like nothing was out of the ordinary as the people sitting beside her gave her glances occasionally. All the while she kept praying that her stop would come soon. She might have a spontaneous combustion right then and there, feeling her whole being growing hot from embarrassment. Although suddenly bursting into flames and disappearing wouldn’t have been so bad.

She shook herself back to reality. Reaching out, she pushed on the doorbell and waited, unconsciously holding her breath. Homygod! She was really doing this! The door swung open and her eyes went to Shun. She must have a shocked expression of realizing she was really going through with this, making Shun frown a bit in confusion.

“Are you alright?”

Mao nodded her head vigorously. Her nerves were starting to act up again. Her heart racing so fast and her stomach twisting in an awful knot. She carefully stepped inside. Shun stared at her slippers.

“I-I forgot about them,” she explained lamely.

Shun chuckled and led her in. “What brings you here all of a sudden? Missing me?”

He then glanced back at her, smiling. Mao worked up a smile. It felt stiff. Shun faced forward again , his smile turning a little wobbly. Somehow he knew… He knew what was coming… They stepped into the living room. It was scattered with boxes of several photos he has taken.

“What’s all these for?” she asked, somehow trying to muster up more of the courage that had made her come here.

Shun grinned widely. “I was going to tell you after the plans are finalized but… I’m going to have a photo exhibit soon!”

Mao stared wide-eyed up at him and then her face broke into an excited expression.

“Omo! Congratulations! You’ve always wanted this!”

“How about a congratulatory hug then?” Shun said, spreading his arms wide.

“Of course!” Mao then went up to him and hugged him. Shun kissed the top of her head as he embraced her more tightly, almost as if he didn’t want to let go. Almost as if this would be the last time…

Mao shut her eyes tightly as she felt engulfed by Shun. He really was happy… so happy… and she was here to… take it all away? She felt weak. Can she really do this? Do this to such a wonderful person…? She really was the worst…

“Would you like something to drink? Or pudding? I have some in the fridge,” she heard him say from above.

**

Mao sat on the couch absently going through Shun’s portfolio. Her eyes glanced at Shun again, sitting on the floor sorting some photos. She still hadn’t come clean with him… As time slowly ticked past, it became more and more difficult to tell him… Will she ever be able to tell him? At the rate she was going…

CLICK.

Her head snapped up to Shun lowering his camera with a slight grin.

“I wasn’t ready!” she attempted at a jopke.

“What were you thinking? Seems interesting,” Shun laid out carefully.

“N-Nothing,” she said, then turned back to the portfolio in her hands.

CLICK.

“Stop that!”

“Then tell me what you’re thinking about,” he said, grinning

Mao reached out and tugged the camera away from Shun as he chuckled.

“You’re always the one shooting me. It’s my turn!’ she said, crinkling her eyes at him.

She snapped away as Shun readily posed. He was coming up with different ones. Some funny, some serious, and some just downright weird. Mao laughed as she shot some more joking that she should get and exhibit for these too.

As Mao watched him through the lenses, his face all lit up and laughing, she felt a slight pang of pain in her heart. He really was great… He deserves to be happy… She can’t hurt him…

But then a different face suddenly popped into her head… Pi… No, she can’t hurt Shun… but moreover she doesn’t want to hurt Pi… and herself… It was him she wanted to make happy… Shun looked blurry now; She felt the tears roll down her face as she looked through the camera.

“Mao?” Shun’s concernec voice called out.

She lowered down the camera and looked at him as he got up and quickly sat down next to her., cupping her face. He gently wiped her tears away with his thumb.

“Is my face that ugly that it made you cry?” he attempted one last time at teasing.

Mao then wordlessly took off the necklace he had given her. She didn’t deserve to have this anymore… It had felt heavier and heavier around her neck… She placed it in Shun’s hand, her own slightly shaking.

“I-I’m sorry. I can’t lie to you anymore… It’s too much… I-,” she started.

Finally, she has said it.

“I know.”

“I can’t- W-What? What do you mean?”

“It seems I have this unlucky habit of overhearing your conversations,” he grimaced. “It’s Pi isn’t it?” he then continued steadily, surprised at how calm he was at this moment.

Mao looked up at him as she wiped her tears away from her cheeks. Shun was gazing down at her, waiting for her answer. It was time to hear it.

“Yes.” And that answer made her heart feel lighter.

Shun managed a small smile. “I knew I would get a call like this from you one day.”

Her eyes snapped up to him.

“Deep down. When we got back together again, I sorta have already known it isn’t the same anymore. But I was in strong denial. I refused to see, to believe the obvious.”

Mao sniffed as she watched Shun. “I don’t know what to say. Before I realized it… I was in too deep…”

Shun gave a low chuckle and flicked her forehead. “You came here in your Keroro slippers. You know how much that crushed me. It’s like you couldn’t wait any longer.”

He tried his best to make it sound lighter tan it is but somehow it was impossible. Mao cast her eyes down. He glanced at her.

“You know what’s eating at me the most?”

She looked back up at him. He picked up the camera and reviewed the shots. He stopped at the shot he took of Mao earlier.

“It’s this look. Lately, I seem to always take many shots of you like this. You’re not happy with me anymore… I’ve noticed it but I’m just blinding myself. I knew I was being selfish… but I didn’t want to let you go…,” he softly said, turning to her.

Mao bit her lip to stop them from quivering.

“And also, I know the look when you’re thinking of Pi. But I’ve deleted them all. Makes my blood boil,” he said, narrowing his eyes at her.

Mao let out a small laugh; her head bent down, sniffing. He smiled shakily.

“I’m sorry. I’m not really good at this… I’m sorry… I thought I can make you happy…” he then said.

Mao shook her head. “Please don’t say you’re sorry. Just don’t. I’m the one who’s sorry… I should have been more honest-“

“So we’re both not good with this huh? But I guess nobody really is though. It’s just a matter of willing to make things work…,” Shun said softly, staring off. Mao looked at him sadly.

“Yosh!” he then said as he stood up. “I should be sending you off now. I can’t believe it. But I am.”

His insides were turning into mush. He felt like she needed to go as soon as possible or else he’ll be changing his mind. Mao slowly stood up. His gaze went to her and he felt like he needed to say it.

“For what it’s worth… I’m really happy that for a time I had you…”

Mao smiled up at him. “Me too, Shun. Me too,” she said sincerely.

The next thing he wasn’t sure he really wanted to know but they were at this point already, right? There really was no use talking about it now…

“Did you ever love me?” he then suddenly asked.

Mao’s eyes snapped to him. She looked taken aback at the question and she didn’t know what to answer. She had never once said ‘I love you’ to him. He knew she wasn’t the type… She wasn’t good at expressing herself… Or maybe there was another reason…

Shun felt his heart sink. “Is it ever like the way you feel about Pi?”

She met his gaze and in her eyes… He had his answer… Mao opened her mouth to speak but Shun ruffled her hair and smiled at her reassuringly. As if saying, he’ll be able to get over that. He then walked her to the door. She stepped out and turned around. But not really knowing what to say.

“I’ll watch you go inside,” she then said to him.

“It’s okay. I’ll-,” he started.

“No, I don’t want my back to be the last thing you see,” she said, feeling as if she wasn’t making any sense.

It’s just that she still wanted to remain friends with him. Maybe not now. Maybe not immediately but someday… She felt it wasn’t the right time to be asking that from him right now. Even she was surprised thought that she would be thinking this way. She had always thought she could never be friends again with someone she has broken up with. But losing someone like Shun as a friend… She didn’t want that…

Shun looked at her silently. “I-I just want you to know I’m not walking away completely.”

And he understood. Nodding somberly, he forced another smile at her. “Later.”

Mao smiled up at him genuinely, tears shining in her eyes as he slowly closed the door until he couldn’t see her anymore. Mao stood there immobile at first, staring at the closed door. And then her heart thumping, she hurriedly ran down the stairs. Pi…

**

Shun stood there, forehead leaning against the door. Mao quickly running down the stairs as if her life depended on it… to run to Pi… made his whole body feel weak… He slowly walked back towards the living room, plopping down on the couch limply, as if dazed. His eyes caught a box on the floor and he reached over to pick it up.

He opened the lid and a photo of Mao was smiling up at him. It was all the photos of her he had taken. He slowly took them out and looked at them, knowing he was just torturing himself. But he couldn’t seem to stop. He stared down at the last photo in the pile. It was the shot he had taken of her when she was talking animatedly to Nino… He smiled sadly as his eyes roamed over Mao’s shining face… He thought he had found something that was just for him… He thought he had found a place he belongs to…

Her image was getting more and more blurry… Tears rolled down his cheeks as he leaned his head back and closed his eyes, his hands still clenched on the necklace…

Unfortunately, she belongs somewhere else…

**

Mao glumly snapped her phone shut. She had been trying to get a hold of Pi but his phone seems to have been turned off. She called Massu up to ask if Pi had come back but there was no sign of him. In a desperate attempt, she had tried to check the placed they had gone to in the past (after buying herself a nice pair of flats first, though). Hoping he was somehow also there wandering around aimlessly. But no luck. Isn’t that supposed to be the case? He would be sulking, thinking of her in a significant place and then they would somehow end up meeting there dramatically, she thought, pouting.

Or maybe he really had been to those places but they just keep missing each other? Hey, it could happen. She sighed. What was she thinking anyway? She kicked at a stone, feeling restless. She wanted to tell Pi everything… Just everything… She still didn’t know how. But she wants to see him so badly…

As she was about to round the corner to their building, she heard unfamiliar voices, making her stop in her tracks.

“Pi’s been living here? Are you sure?”

Mao frowned. These people knew Pi. She quickly took a peek. They somehow look familiar…

“This is definitely the place Shige went to the other day,” one of the guys said.

That voice… Mao’s eyes widened. That jackass at the bar! He knows Pi??

“What? You followed him?” Yuu asked in disbelief.

Jin scoffed. “Do you think I’d waste my time on that? Of course I hired someone. I’m too pretty anyway. I’d stand out too much. Not a good quality for stalking someone.”

Yuu and Eiji just stared at him. This guy is just full of himself! Barf! But wait, hired someone? Mao thought frowning. To follow Shige, they say. To find Pi? Why?

“I can’t believe Pi gave up his mansion and apartment for this,” Jin said, as he looked up disdainfully at the building. “And he could have told us! We’re his friends! Disappearing just like that…”

Mao jerked. Mansion? Apartment? Heh? Is he…

“You never can tell what he’s thinking. It’s always been like that,” Yuu said, as he took in the surroundings, still unable to believe Pi would choose to live here.

“He knew we wouldn’t understand. Maybe he just wanted a different perspective to life,” Eiji mused.

“We have booze, girls, money. What more does he want?” Jin.

Eiji rolled his eyes at him. That was all his brain could handle.

“That kind of deep crap doesn’t last though. I’m pretty sure he found it new and exciting. But Shige did say he was coming back home soon. I bet he’s already had enough,” Jin said confidently.

“How can you be sure Shige didn’t just say that so you can get off his case?” Yuu asked.

“My guy also overheard him talking to Pi on the phone, asking something about when he would be leaving.”

“Well, why doesn’t he come back yet?” Eiji asked, raising an eyebrow.

Jin frowned. “How would I know? The important thing is he’ll be back with us soon. I was just curious how he had been living. Never expected this in a million years.”

“I just remembered that girl he was pretty concerned about. Wonder if she has anything to do with this?” Eiji mused out loud, pursing his lips.

Jin guffawed. “You really think he’d be interested in her? Please”

“I wish Pi would come out right now and sock you.”

“What did you say?”

“Nothing,” Eiji said innocently. Yuu cleared his throat.

“Anyway, when he comes back, we’ll be having one hell of a party-“

Mao slowly walked away, not really wanting to stay to hear more. She’s heard enough and she was at a loss still trying to digest the fact that Pi is really rich. And that he’s planning on leaving soon. Without even telling her? So is this the real reason she couldn’t reach him? He’s suddenly gone away? He’s really had enough? It was over?

Anger flared up inside her. Then why the hell would he still confess to her. If he’s just going to give up in the end? And she was even ready to tell him what she really felt! Ugh! She hated finding things put this way. Guess Shun wasn’t the only one who has the unlucky habit of overhearing unpleasant conversations.

**

“If you don’t come over here right now I’m going to spread the fact that you’re a big Backstreet Boys fan!” Mao threatened over the phone.

“I’m NOT a Backstreet Boys fan!” Nino yelled defensively. “It was one song. One song!”

Minutes later, Nino entered the bar grudgingly and found Mao sitting alone at one of the tables. Nino, exasperated, went over to her. She sounded troubled over the phone so he thought to check up on her. (Nothing whatsoever to do with her threat. Na-uh.)

“What’s wrong?” he asked, as he stopped in front of her. She was pouring herself some soju.

“What? Two friends can’t enjoy some soju?”

Nino rolled his eyes. “You expect me to believe that? Aren’t scenes like these overused already? Soju plus drinking alone in some random bar (or sometimes outside in street stalls) then calling out a friend to talk to equals love problems.”

“Have you been spending time with the Sho-racle?” she asked as she downed her shot glass.

“Huh?” Nino frowned. Mao stayed silent not acknowledging the fact he was spot on about the love problem.

“I’m just upset about GD’s hair fiasco. (Whut was that? He doesn’t have any hair on just his left side!)”

“Heh?” Nino regarded her silently as she poured soju into another glass for him. He will find out soon enough anyway. And he was right as the night wore on and more bottles of soju appeared on the table.

“Pour me soju, chingu!” she demanded and pushed her glass to him.

“Stop acting like you’re Korean.”

Mao’s head snapped to him. “Someone once said that to me before.”

Nino drank his soju and was startled, almost spitting it out, as Mao suddenly yelled. “That big fat lying pig!”

“Why? Why didn’t I see it? He does everything he wants! He’s so spoiled. He’s got all those fancy clothes! Why…?”

Nino stared at her. “Who are you talking about?”

Mao’s eyes snapped to the bowl of peanuts. She grabbed some, laid it on the table and used the soju bottle to crush them. Oookay… He gets it now.

“And I don’t like that punk friend of his (which is really too much of a coincidence, imho) Aaand… he decides to leave just like that! What? Like he’s had enough fun with us? Are we his little toys? Just to pass time till he returns to his rich, spoiled friends and then they’ll be sitting around drinking wine and laughing about it?” she downed her glass angrily.

“Let me get this straight. Pi’s actually rich?”

“Yes! Haven’t you been listening?” Mao snapped.

“You weren’t exactly giving out the details,” Nino said, gritting his teeth.

“Yeah and he then waltzes into our lives for a bit of fun, see? And then the minute he’s bored he waltzes back to his world!”

Nino frowned a bit. “That doesn’t make sense though. Why would he think our world would be better fun?”

Mao paused. “B-Because that’s the way it is! He wants to make fools out of all of us!” Her voice was growing louder and louder.

“Don’t you think the fact he’s willing to live a simpler life counts for something?” Nino pointed out. “You know Pi better than that, right?”

“W-Why would he lie to us then?”

“Coz I bet you wouldn’t be able to see him beyond the fact that he’s rich. Maybe that’s it. Or maybe he never expected to get so much out of this…”

Maybe Nino was right… But right now… He deserved to be misunderstood. Hmph.

“Who’s side are you on anyway? This is a big lie! It’s not like you lying about not being a Backstreet Boys fan.,” Mao said as she drank more soju. A vein in Nino’s head was threatening to pop.

“Or maybe you’re more upset about the fact Pi being rich could make things a whole lot more complicated between the two of you.”

“Whut? I’m not afraid of possible evil mothers bent on breaking us apart, okay?” Hm. Or maybe she actually is. A bit. “I’m upset because he lied and then just disappears without an explanation. And he was intending on leaving all along.”

“I’m not entirely convinced he’s gone for good. He had confessed, right?”

Mao’s head snapped to him.

“I talk to Ryo,” Nino stated, shrugging. “Don’t completely write him off like that. You know better.”

Mao sighed, exasperated, as she downed another glass. The reasonable part of her knew Nino somehow has a point. That she shouldn’t just jump into conclusions. There should be an explanation. But the angry part of her … She eyed the peanuts again.

**

“Oh girl, I cry cry, yo my all, say goodbye. Oh my love, don’t lie lie, yo my heart, say goodbye,” Mao sang as she giggled and leaned on Kei-chan. He trying to steady her.

“What is she singing?” Kei-chan asked, confused. They stood outside their rooms. Nino was rubbing his temples. A drunk and upset Mao really can drain you.

“I think it’s one of Big Bang’s new songs. She was babbling on and on about eyeliners, headbands and underground carparks. The rest, you don’t even want to know,” Nino explained, shaking his head.

“I am Spiderman!” Mao then shouted, throwing a punch into the air.

“Yeah, yeah, and I’m Robin,” Kei-chan said as he started to usher her to her room.

“You should have said Batman. Robin is just the side-“

“Shut up, Massu,” Kei-chan said.

“KoyaMama!” Mao exclaimed, as if seeing him for the first time and then gave him a tight hug.

“Mao, you’re squeezing too tight,” Kei-chan choked.

Tego stepped forward, and then gently tried to pry Mao’s arms off. “Here, I’ll help. I’ll support her this time.”

Massu narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “You’re not just trying to get Mao to hug you too, right?”

Tego stiffened and then, “How could you think that a time like this?” he gasped in an exaggerated way.

“What’s this all about?” Ryo asked as he watched the display. Teo was insisting he’ll take Mao now as Kei-chan held him back, pushing his face away. He would have thought everything would be smooth-sailing. Has she talked to Shun? Contacted Pi?

“She’d been asking for peanuts the whole night just crushing them,” Nino said significantly.

“Peanuts?” Ryo frowned. “What happened with Pi?”

This doesn’t make sense. Before Nino could answer, footsteps behind them sounded. It was Pi, wondering why they were all crowded in the hall. His eyes went to Mao. Tego had managed to pry Mao from Kei-chan and was about to take her in his arms.

“Unhand her!” he yelled. All of their eyes snapped to him. Unhand her? Dramatic much? Tego glared at his timing as Pi walked towards them.

“Don’t come near me, you pig liar!” Mao then yelled.

Pi stopped in his tracks. “Heh?”

Did she just call him a pig? Well, Buta means pig too but he felt much cuter if she calls him that. But pig? A scowl appeared on his face. “What was that for?”

“Why are you back anyway?” she said, though she tried to ignore the hazy thought that she was glad he is. “Go stay with your rich friends in your mansion that probably includes an evil mom!”

“Heh?” Ryo and the others all chorused.

Pi frowned. “You-“

“Yeah, I found out your little secret. And the fact you’re leaving soon! Sick of us already? Had your fun?” she shot at him.

“Are you stupid or something?” Pi glared at her.

Mao scowled at him. “I probably am for actually falling for your lies!”

“That was the only thing I lied about! Look-“

“I don’t really want to talk to you or even see you right now!” Mao said, slurring and then wobbly turned on her heel. Kei-chan held her as they walked to her room followed by Tego.

“W-Well, I don’t want to see you or talk to you too!” He sounded like a child but she was impossible! Always unwilling to listen to what he has to say. Tomorrow he’ll have to talk to her when she’s not too mad or too drunk, he thought sullenly as he watched them go into Mao’s room. They stood outside in silence until Kei-chan and Tego came back out.

All of them regarded him silently. Pi couldn’t look them in the eye. He had lied to them. He knows whatever reason he may have doesn’t justify that.

“I-I’m sorry,” he started, his head bowed down.

“Were you ever going to tell us?” Nino asked quietly.

“Of course. But honestly I don’t know how to… and I didn’t want you guys finding out this way.”

“Frankly, I feel kind of offended why you found it necessary to keep it from us from the start,” Ryo frowned.

“Although I somehow understand. You didn’t want it to be an issue between us,” Kei-chan offered.

“It eventually became an issue though,” Massu shrugged as Tego remained quiet not looking at Pi.

They all went quiet. Pi stomach flip-flopping nervously. He didn’t want things to change between them. He wanted to say it right now but it didn’t feel right. Now fully realizing how much their friendship meant to him. (Okay, even with Tego.)

They all turned to go to there respective rooms. Nino followed Ryo into his. Pi stood there sadness washing over him as he heard doors closing one by one. When will things turn out alright? He stood there immobile, his eyes closed as he leaned against his door.

“Yo…,” he heard a second later. His eyes snapped open. It was Massu. His head poking out of his door.

“So when are you going to make it up for us as a way of apologizing?” he then asked, flashing a wide grin.

Pi could only stare at him as the others all came out again and stood before him grinning.

“Had you going there, huh?” Koyama said chuckling.

“I thought we were going to give him a hard time?” Tego grumbled as Koyama shushed him.

“We’re really not the dramatic types. We leave that to you and Mao,” Ryo smirked.

“They’re just the crazy types,” Nino commented.

“You were in on this too!”

“So how was my acting skills eh? Pretty convincing huh?” Massu asked.

“Oh yeah. I loved your line.”

Koyama ran his hand through his hair dramatically. “I should have been an actor.”

They all burst out laughing. Pi joined in. “Don’t do that.”

“Just always be honest with us from now on then,” Koyama said, grinning as Pi nodded, amused. Definitely.

“Where have you been anyway? You’ve been gone a while making Mao jump into conclusion,” Nino explained.

He had gone back to sort some problems in one of the projects their company was handling. It took away most of his attention as he dived into work. He really wanted to at least call once or twice but the situation didn’t allow him to.

“I just wish I could talk to her right now,” Pi sighed.

“Talk? You’ll just be biting each other’s heads off,” Ryo said, rolling his eyes. “By the way Pi-“

He wanted to tell him about Mao seeing the videos on his iPod.

“I’ll just go in and rest now,” Pi then said. Feeling really exhausted. He hadn’t had much sleep.

Ryo nodded. He can tell him tomorrow. Pi went into his room. Nino had also said goodbye and went home. They’ll try to figure this out next time.

“I hope things would soon work out between them,” Koyama sighed, shaking his head dejectedly.

“We were almost there,” Ryo said.

“What are you guys talking about?” Tego asked, frowning.

They looked at him. They have somehow kept him outside of the loop. Should they tell him?

A loud howl echoed from the building. Koyama put his hand over his mouth as he tired to pull free, shaking his head, crushed. Ryo gave him a sharp glare as Massu chirped, “Sorry Tego, this is Mao and Pi’s story.”

Ryo’s thoughts went back to the two. “Honestly, we should just tell them outright. Sick and tired of all these-“

“Sick and tired of all these people talk about. What’s the deal with this pop life and-,” Massu sang and then stopped in the act of shaking his booty as the other three could just stare.

“What the pudding was that?”

Massu straightened up and cleared his throat. They heard someone come up the stairs. Sakurai! They walked towards him and hurriedly relayed everything that happened.

“But you already know that huh?” Koyama asked tentatively.

Sho just shrugged.

“Okay, just tell us when they’re going to end up together. The suspense is killing me!” Massu said, exasperated.

“What?! Mao and Pi ends up together?!"

Sho flashed one of his rare smiles as they all ignored Tego. “Hmm… I bet we’ll find out soon enough.”

**

Pi knocked on Mao’s door the next day, berating himself for waking up so late in the afternoon. He really was too exhausted. Good thing Mao wasn’t an early riser too. He knocked once more, frowning. And then placed his ear to the door, listening in to see if anyone was moving inside. It was too quiet. Crap. She had already went out, keen on avoiding him.

He had tried calling her but knew that wouldn’t work. Either she has it turned off or she’ll ignore his calls. Her phone was off. He then went to the places they had gone to in the past. Isn’t that how it works? He had stopped at a ramen shop, without any luck, as his stomach had been rumbling for a while now. He slurped his noodles wondering where on earth she had gone now, his frustration rising. Only she can irk him this way.

His phone suddenly rang and he quickly fumbled for it, hoping it was Mao. His heart fell as he saw it was an unknown number.

“Hello?”

**

Shun popped the takoyaki into his mouth and chewed. He glanced sideways at Pi who hadn’t touched his, his face set. What did Shun want? Although he probably knows it already. It was about Mao.

“You aren’t eating. Mao said this was your favourite,” Shun started.

Without looking at him, Pi reached out and popped one into his mouth. Shun observed him from the corner of his eyes. For someone who’s finally with Mao, he didn’t look too happy. Or maybe he was just feeling guilty around him. Well, he should be…

“Mao did always talk about you. How did I miss that?” he then said casually.

Pi’s eyes snapped to him. He wasn’t the only one that missed that. Mao too. He can’t take this anymore. Sorry, Mao. He thought to himself. But I need to tell him.

“Mao and I-,” Pi started.

Shun then turned to him. “Can I punch you?”

“Whu-,” he felt Shun’s fist connect with his cheek. He fell off his chair. And then looked up at Shun. “What the hell?”

“I know Mao chose you. But I still don’t like the fact-“

Wait. Whut? “What are you talking about?”

Shun paused for a second, frowning down at him. “Aren’t you two together?”

Pi could only stare up at him.

“We broke up. It was because she…m” he couldn’t finish the sentence. “I thought the way she ran from my apartment yesterday she was going to you…”

There was a buzzing in Pi’s mind. And then he snapped to it. That girl…

“She didn’t say anything. She-,” he started as he got up. His phone then rang. It was Nino. He knew where Mao is.

“I have to go strangle the girl I love now,” Pi told Shun and then quickly turned around and ran, his heart pounding.

**

“This isn’t good. Jin just told me he knows everything. I think he hired someone to follow me around,” Shige’s voice came from the other line. “He says he has seen your building.”

“Yeah. Mao already knows,” Pi said. “She must have overheard him if that’s the case.”

Shige could hear Pi running hurriedly on the other end and then was shouting for a taxi. “Where are you running off to?”

“Where do you think?”

“Ah.” Shige smiled.
